We offer a few guides to nice trails in the neighbourhood:
We are a big family with four children. We are keen mountaineers spending a large portion of our free time trekking the peaks in the region. We've been to the Himalayas too, it's like our second home. If you enjoy trekking, we've got a lot of talk about with thousands of photos and movies.
We are truly interested in topics such as parenting, trekking, traveling, growing organic food, eating healthy, spiritual development.
We have named our house "Mala Planina" after the mountain's name that we built it on. It's a part of the famous Stara Planina range, better known as "The Balkan", hence the name of the peninsula - The Balkans.
Our location is just 30-minute drive away from Sofia - Bulgaria's capital. And a 65-minute drive from the Sofia International Airport (SOF).
Our house is away from busy roads and neighborhood houses. With us you can put your senses to rest - no hustle, no honking horns, no dust in the air, just natural sounds - sheep bells, bird songs and the wind playing with the forest leaves.
Staying at Mala Planina is not an anonymous one-night venture on a hurry. Our typical international guests are staying at least a few nights up to a week using the house as a base for various day-long visits to neighboring monasteries, farms, hills, rocks, waterfalls or just trekking the immense variety of foot paths around.
Even if someone books for a single night on a transit route, they don't rush too much leaving the house - having a tea or coffee at the roof terrace is an unforgettable experience we offer.
Many guests are returning whenever they visit Bulgaria again. This is a great reassurance for us that our place provides an enjoyable stay with it marvellous panoramic view and calm atmosphere.
Our house can comfortably accommodate up to 13 guests.
Beds are arranged in various configurations depending on the guests' preferences - single, queen or king. Here's a list of room types available:
An apartment with 2 rooms, each with 2 beds, a total of 4 guests.
3 double rooms - two single beds or a single king size bed.
1 triple room - three single beds.
The apartment and one of the double rooms are with a balcony and a panoramic view.
The rest are with garden, forest or pool view.
All the moutains in the region are low altitude mountains with peaks within the 3000-5000 feet range. With their mild climate but moderate difficulty they are attractive to trekkers and bikers from all over Bulgaria.
It's not uncommon to see big animal herds on the slopes of Ponor and Mala Planina mountains - sheep, goats, cows... Locals keep the family-run agriculture tradition alive with small patches of land vigorously maintained and used to farm potatoes, beans and corn. Most house yards have small veggie gardens where people grow tomatoes, cucumbers, pepper, onions and garlic.
In the neighborhood one can enjoy local organic food, traditional animal herding, monasteries, waterfalls, trekking routes.
